Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis means excessive sweating. This sweating can impact negatively on a patients quality of life as it can lead to avoidance of social contact due to embarrassment & lack of confidence. One of the most commonly affected areas for this excessive sweating is the armpits.
It is important to book in a consult with the doctor prior to the treatment so as to outrule any specific medical causes for the excessive sweating beforehand as there are some medical conditions and medications that may be contributing to this symptom.

Wrinkle relaxer injections
With an injection of a muscle relaxant protein to the affected area, this type of sweating can be effectively treated. This muscle relaxant protein blocks the function of the sweat glands rendering them temporarily inactive. This is actually the same muscle relaxant protein that is used in anti wrinkle injections for facial fine lines & wrinkles.
This effect will last for approximately 6 to 12 months after which another treatment will be required. The effect will last a little longer after each treatment, as the sweat glands do not regain their full functioning between the treatments. A local anaesthetic cream can be administered prior to the injections to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
RF Microneedling treatments
This is a relatively new indication for the use of RF microneedling which is also used for skin rejuvenation & other skin conditions.
The Intensif by Endymed is a state of the art technology that uses gold plated microneedles, which release radiofrequency energy deep within the skin. The microneedles bypass the epidermis reducing any damage to the top layers of the skin and delivers heat to the deeper layers where it imparts its actions on the sweat glands & consequently destroys the hair follicles in the armpits. This device delivers needle depths up to 5mm
Local anaesthetic is applied before the procedure making it a relatively painless treatment
The recommendation is for 3 sessions 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results

WRINKLE RELAXER INJECTIONS
The treatment involves the injection of small amounts of muscle relaxant to the hair bearing skin of both arm pits – the injections are administered using a very small fine needle similar to treating facial wrinkles but much larger amounts are needed for excessive sweating when compared with the treatment of wrinkles.
RF MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT
This involves application of radiofrequency energy from a handpiece after local anaesthetic has been applied to the skin of the armpits for 30 - 45 minute.
The recommendation is for 3 sessions 4-6 weeks apart is recommended

Wrinkle relaxer injections
Following treatment with muscle relaxant injections for hyperhidrosis a persons normal activities can be resumed.
There may be mild swelling and redness at the injection points and occasionally bruising.
Some general advice after the injections are as follows :
Do not lie down flat for 4 hours post-treatment
Avoid the use of antiperspirant products for 24 hours
Do not rub or massage the affected area for 24 hours
Avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours
RF microneedling treatment
The area may become swollen & inflamed for a few hours afterwards but will settle within 24 hours or so.
Avoid anti perspirants or deodorants for 1-2 days after treatment

depending on the individual response to the injections, the Hyperhidrosis treatment may last anywhere between 6 to 9 months. This depends on the severity of the hyperhidrosis and also other individual factors.
The RF microneedling is a more permanent solution to the hyperhidrosis & sweat gland activity should be reduced considerably after the 3 treatments. Maintenance treatments may be required subsequently
