Body Composition Scan
At our clinic, we now offer a top-of-the-line body composition analyzer – to give you a clear, accurate picture of your overall health. In just a few seconds, it provides detailed insights into your body fat percentage, muscle mass, visceral fat, metabolic age, and more. This medically approved device helps us go beyond the number on the scale to better understand your body and track progress over time. Whether you’re looking to improve fitness, manage weight, or simply check in on your health, our body composition scan offers a fast, non-invasive, and reliable way to support your goals.
Body composition analysis is a quantitative assessment of the different components of the body tissues including fat, muscle, bone, and water.
It is a valuable tool used for devising customized nutritional and fitness plans for weight loss and general health management.
This analysis offers a more precise health assessment than mere body weight. It shows if one has a balanced muscle to fat ratio which is more indicative of health outcomes.
For weight loss patients this tool distinguishes fat loss from muscle loss – with the new weight loss medications that are becoming more frequently prescribed for obesity, monitoring of the body composition ensures fat reduction while preserving lean body mass.
Body composition analysis also reveals high body fat & visceral fat deposition around the body’s internal organs which is an indicator of elevated risk of chronic illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. This analysis identifies at-risk individuals that aren’t necessarily having any symptoms of these serious conditions. This can result in preventative lifestyle measures being adopted to reduce the risk of progression to these life limiting conditions.
Menopause Weight gain
Hormonal shifts during menopause can alter body composition also so women struggling with weight gain during menopause may benefit from a baseline body composition analysis and monitor it over the menopausal years and thereafter to ensure optimal weight control, nutritional and fitness plans during this crucial period in their lives.
Our Machines
Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA): Uses low level electrical currents to estimate the different components of fat, muscle, and bone mass and provides detailed information about these tissues. The state-of-the-art device measuring body composition with BIA is a Tanita DC430MA analyzer.
DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry): Provides detailed images of body composition. DEXA is a medical imaging technique that uses two X-ray beams to measure the density of bone, fat, and lean tissue in the body. It is considered one of the most accurate and reliable methods for assessing body composition, including body fat percentage. The other benefit of the DEXA scans is that they are considered the gold standard for bone density analysis – detecting thinning bones referred to as osteopenia and osteoporosis where there is an increased risk of fracture with minimal trauma injuries.
